Mochi..
What Is Mochi ??
Mochi, once called “doushu” in Taiwan, is a representative dish of both indigenous and Hakka people. It is also a much-loved gift item.
Features/Ingredients
Formed largely of pulverized glutinous rice, mochi is known for its sticky and chewy nature. Mochi is sometimes served stuffed with pastes of adzuki bean, peanut or sesame (so-called “Hualian mochi”). Hakka-style mochi is not filled, but is served dipped in peanut powder
About/Origins
Hakka-style mochi, also made of pulverized glutinous rice, is dipped in peanut powder and sugar. This tasty treat is always present at holiday celebrations. The mochi of indigenous people is made of crushed millet and when not filled, is known for its ricelike fragrance. For indigenous people, mochi is a must-have at harvest festivals and other major celebrations.
